SAGES Surgical Wiki Content Standards

Etiquette

SAGES wiki is meant to function as a true wikipedia, and content will be monitored and edited by SAGES members as a form of peer review. Dialogue about content should be raised in the discussion pages. With the goal of maintaining a premier surgical encyclopedia, inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated:

Use of profanity or inappropriate images

Creation of pages of questionable intent, hoaxes, self promotion and advertising, and personal attacks

Spam, including (i) links to unrelated external sites and (ii) links to personal websites

Using or uploading copyrighted material without permission

Biographies

Articles about living or deceased persons, should carry a high degree of sensitivity. Use high-quality references, particularly about details of personal lives. Administrators reserve the right to remove any unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material—whether negative, positive, or questionable—about living or deceased persons with complete removal and without reference in the discussion, history, or other related pages.

Naming conventions

Article naming should give priority to what the majority of English speakers worldwide and within the professions of medicine and surgery would most easily recognize. Article names should be in the singular, not pleural, form in the majority of cases. Avoid preceding function words such as “a” or “the.”
Example: Cholecystectomy would be a reasonable article name, rather than Cholecystectomies (pleural), or The Cholecystectomy. “Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy” may exist as a subheading under “Cholecystectomy,” or in some cases, such a topic may warrant an article by itself.

Unpublished research

Articles may not contain any unpublished theories, data, statements, concepts, arguments, or ideas that are not otherwise considered general knowledge – unless cited as such - or any new interpretation, analysis, or synthesis of published data, statements, concepts, or guidelines that is unsubstantiated.

References

Sources should be cited according to AMA style, and journal/text abbreviations according to National Library of Medicine conventions.

Users are responsible for not reproducing copyright-protected text, images, or other multimedia material.
